The Brief

Project Overview

01

The Challenge

IRAS was modernising multiple digital services while maintaining consistency across a large ecosystem of products. As new features were introduced by different teams, the design system needed continuous governance to support scalability, usability and efficient delivery.

02

My Role

Alongside designing product features for agile sprints, I managed the day-to-day operations of the Design Language System. My responsibilities included component governance, cross-functional coordination, stakeholder reviews, developer enablement and maintaining design consistency across projects.

03

The Solution

Balanced sprint feature delivery with long-term design system management by collaborating closely with Business Analysts, developers, designers and stakeholders to ensure every component and feature met both user and technical requirements.

04

Deliverables

Feature Design • Design System Management • Component Governance • Design Reviews • Design Documentation • Developer Handover • BA Training

BA Training

Guided Business Analysts on using Figma, reusable components and design best practices, enabling smoother collaboration throughout sprint delivery.

Sprint Documentation

Maintained sprint logs and implementation notes, providing teams with a single source of truth for approved Design Language System updates.

Developer Walkthroughs

Conducted bi-weekly sessions to introduce new components, interaction behaviours and updated design standards before implementation.

04

Developer & BA Enablement

To support efficient delivery across teams, I maintained implementation documentation, coordinated component updates and facilitated knowledge sharing with both developers and Business Analysts.

01

Design System Governance

The Design Language System served as the foundation for multiple IRAS digital products. Rather than redesigning it from scratch, I maintained, enhanced and managed the evolving system by refining reusable components, documenting standards and ensuring every update aligned with both user needs and technical constraints.

03

Cross-functional Delivery

Beyond the Design Language System, I collaborated closely with Business Analysts throughout agile sprints to design enterprise features based on stakeholder requirements.

From translating business needs into intuitive interfaces to conducting design reviews before development, I helped ensure every feature balanced usability, consistency and technical feasibility.

2 — Feasibility Assessment

Partnered with developers and stakeholders to review technical constraints, design consistency and implementation impact before proposing changes.

3 — Design Council Review

Prepared component updates for internal review and approval, ensuring every addition met organisational standards before being incorporated into the Design Language System.

1 — Requirement Validation

Worked closely with designers and Business Analysts to understand the purpose of each enhancement request before evaluating existing design patterns.

02

Component Governance

Every enhancement request followed a structured review process before becoming part of the Design Language System.

Biggest Takeaway

Looking Back

Supported consistent product delivery by maintaining the Design Language System and coordinating updates across multiple teams.
Great design systems rely as much on clear communication, collaboration and governance as they do on well-designed components.
This experience strengthened my confidence, ownership and ability to navigate complex cross-functional environments.
